Topaz Gems

Topaz Gems were never mentioned until recently, and were apparently added in since our visit to Blizzard North in December, since diamonds were the resident lightning elemental gems at that time.  A topaz is yellow or brownish-yellow, and that's close enough to lightning for them to fit.

Topaz have an interesting property in helms, with the +% to find magical items.  There are some modifiers in Diablo II that do this as well, but they are not real common, so a couple of nice quality Topazes in a helm would be very good.  They lightning resistance in a shield is nice, but or course Diamonds resist all in shields.  And the lightning damage from a Topaz in a weapon isn't all that impressive, so helms appear to be the clear winner here.

  • "Normal" gems are just referred to by the gem's name, so a normal ruby would say "ruby" when hovered on, not "normal ruby."
  • All gems require 1x1 space in the inventory, and can not be stacked.
  • The numerical info on modifiers is mostly estimated now, but is very close to exact. Most gems have an allowed range each, such as 10-14%, so expect some variation.
