Rubies

Rubies add weird damage in weapons.   It seems to overlap a bit from one level to the next, and there are reports of it varying from weapon to weapon, though this might be due to things changing over the course of the beta.

Rubies add quite a bit of life when in a helm, which is quite useful, especially for a HC char early on in the game.  A couple of these is not at all a bad thing in your hat.  The added resistance in a shield is nice as well, though the fire damage you encounter in Act One isn't too hot.  Weapons seem to be the weakest of the options, as the added fire damage is not very high, even with perfect rubies.

  • "Normal" gems are just referred to by the gem's name, so a normal ruby would say "ruby" when hovered on, not "normal ruby."
  • All gems require 1x1 space in the inventory, and can not be stacked.
  • The numerical info on modifiers is mostly estimated now, but is very close to exact. Most gems have an allowed range each, such as 10-14%, so expect some variation.
