Diamonds

It was long thought that diamonds were lightning gems, but as we now know, that honor goes to Topaz.  As the king of the gems, Diamonds deserved something more interesting than just an elemental property anyway, and they have gotten it.  It is unclear how the +damage to the undead works when socketed in a blunt, which has 150% damage to the undead already.  It displays 50% higher than if the gem were in a sword, but it is thought that swords do less than 100% damage to the undead, so shouldn't they display at say 50% plus the 28% from a chipped diamond?  Unknown.

Diamonds are very powerful when socketed.  The big added Attack Rating in a helm is very nice, though keep in mind that Attack Rating is not the same thing as "to/hit" was in Diablo, and as with Amethysts in a weapon, you need to add a lot to your Attack Rating to make a noticable difference.  Clvl 15 Barbarians have been seen with over 500 Attack Rating, and still only doing 90% or so chance to/hit the target, so you can see that adding 10 or even 20 to Attack Rating isn't real impressive.

The resistance to all is very nice though, and seems clearly the best bonus you can get from a Diamond.  The bonus damage to undead is not bad either, and it can go quite high, so that's another good choice.

  • "Normal" gems are just referred to by the gem's name, so a normal diamond would say "diamond" when hovered on, not "normal diamond."
  • All gems require 1x1 space in the inventory, and can not be stacked.
  • The numerical info on modifiers is mostly estimated now, but is very close to exact. Most gems have an allowed range each, such as 10-14%, so expect some variation.
