When Charsi fled the Monastery she left behind her Horadric Malus, an
enchanted smithing hammer. If you can retrieve it for her, she will use its
magic to strengthen your weapons. The Malus is guarded by the Smith.
Multiplayer Reward: All players in the party receive the award. The
Malus is replaced back in the Barracks if a player leaves the game with it or
leaves it on the ground for an hour. Tip: - Search the Barracks. Choose wisely which item you want to
imbue. Location: Monastery Type: Find item Reward: Upgrade one metal item In this quest, somewhat reminiscent of the Anvil of
Fury from Diablo, you must descend deep into the Monastery, and fetch a sacred
armourer's tool called the Horadric Malus, for Charsi, the Rogue Encampment
Blacksmith. The Horadric Malus
is guarded by a fierce quest monster, the nastiest one in Act One, save for
Andariel. He is also rather reminiscent of a boss monster from Diablo, but to
tell who would be a spoiler. You'll know (with a thrill) the moment you see
him though.
This quest packs an interesting reward, in that you
can keep the Horadric Malus, which is not a bad weapon at all. Or you can give
it to Charsi, and in return she will upgrade one of your items, making it
magical. Like most quest items, you may not sell the Horadric Malus. It
displays with a "Quest Item, not salable" hover tag if you try. The weapon
upgrade provided by Charsi is useful at the time, but it seems like it would be
better to do it later in the game when your character has some equipment they
are going to keep long term. However this upgrade is probably not going to be
available on magical or socketed items, or more than once on an item, so you
couldn't keep creating new characters, giving them the item to upgrade, and
running them through the quest, thereby creating a super
weapon.
Given by Charsi after completing the Forgotton Tower quest or by
entering the Inner Cloister. |
