Hirelings
.
Act I Hirelings: Rogues
.
Act II Hirelings: Mercenaries
.
Act III Hirelings: Ironwolves
Hirelings are Mercenaries that you can hire to fight by your side. Hirelings
are very loyal and fight to the death. The Hireling follows you and
automatically attacks any monsters or hostile players nearby. You can also see
them on your Automap as an aqua colored "X". You can only have one Hireling at a
time. Each party member can have their own Hireling however bringing the total
to 8 Mercenaries in a full game or party.
Once you have hired a Hireling they appear near you with their icon in the
upper left corner. Next to the Hirelings name is their health bar. You can
toggle this bar on and off with the Z key.
When you level up, Hirelings level up. They improve in Attack Rating (because
the hireable level is a factor), +10 HP, and they also fully heal.
You cannot harm your Hirelings and they cannot harm you or your party
members.
NPCs in town will heal your Hireling. The Paladin Prayer Aura or Holy Bolt
Skill will also heal your Hirelings. Party friendly skills and spells will also
work on Hirelings.
Hirelings have a set look to them. The Hirelings available in Act I, II, and
III will always look the same although they may use different spells and skills.
There are no Hirelings available in Act IV. There are none that would brave
the horrors of Act IV for merely gold.
Hireling Information When you hire a Hireling you are charged a one
time fee in Gold. The price of each Hireling is listed when you Hire them. The
Hire menu also lists some additional information about the Hireling such as
Level, Damage, special attacks, and Hit Points
Common
Questions
When can I get Hirelings? You can hire your first Hireling once you
have completed the second quest in Act I or have reached level 9.
Hirelings follow you through Town Portals, Games, Way Points, but not
Acts Hirelings follow you through portals and way points. If your
Hireling becomes stuck, you can use a way point, town portal or enter or leave a
dungeon/level to quickly move the Hireling back to your side.
When you exit a game, the Hireling will also be saved and appear next time
you start a game.
You cannot take a Hireling between Acts, so you cannot take a Rogue Hireling
to Act II.
You get experience when Hirelings kill a Monster? Yes.
Do Hirelings or Minions take any extra experience? No. You don't
get any less experience for using Hirelings.
When you level up, why do Hireables say "I feel much stronger
now"? This means the Hireable has leveled up. They improve in '% to Hit'
(because the hireable level is a factor), +10 HP, and they also fully heal, too.
This means you can try to keep a Hireable around for as long as you can because
you can level them up.
Can you give items or equipment to a Hireling? No.
Can you check the Hireling's current stats? No.
Can you dismiss a Hireling? No. If you want to get rid of them you
can switch between Acts, Have another player go Hostile with you and kill them,
or lead your Hireling into danger and get them killed on purpose. Some friend
you are!
