Experience for Just One Person
You also always get a minimum of
1 experience if the monster gives experience to start with.
Characters Under Level 25
If the level difference between the monsters and yourself is
relatively small (5 or less), you get 100% of the Experience.
Experience ramps between 100% and 5% when the Monster is 6-10 levels above or
below you.
If the level difference is relatively large (10 or more), a minimum amount
(5%) of the experience is earned for monsters above or below your Character
Level.
Characters Level 25-75
For any monster above your level you get EXP*(Player Level/Monster
Level).
Experience ramps between 100% and 5% when the Monster is 6-10 levels below
you.
If the level difference is relatively large (10 or more), a minimum amount
(5%) of the experience is earned for monsters below your Character Level.
Characters Level 75 and up
For any monster above your level you get EXP*(Player Level/Monster
Level).
Experience ramps between 100% and 5% when the Monster is 6-10 levels below
you.
If the level difference is relatively large (10 or more), a minimum amount
(5%) of the experience is earned for monsters below your Character Level.
After the experience is calculated, the following penalties apply:
When you pass level 75 you get 1/2 the experience. When you pass level 80
you get 1/3 of the experience. When you pass level 85 you get 1/4 the
experience. When you pass level 90 you get 1/5 the experience.
Thus, high-level characters killing low-level monsters get
only a small amount of experience. Similarly, low-level characters killing
high-level monsters get only a small amount of experience.
What happens when two neutral players attack the same
monster? Whichever player makes the killing blow will get the experience.
Experience in a Party For each party member the total Experience
earned for killing a monster is divided into shares -- where each member's
fraction of the total Experience is equal to the member's level divided by the
sum of all the members' levels. After this Experience Share is computed, it is
multiplied by another percentage that is computed on a sliding scale that is
based on the difference between your character's level and the monster's level
-- regardless of whether you are in a party or not. The sliding scale applies if
the level difference is between 5 and 10. If the level difference is relatively
small (5 or less), you get 100% of the Experience Share. If the level difference
is relatively large (10 or more), a minimum amount (5%) of the Experience Share
is earned. Thus, high-level characters killing low-level monsters get only a
small amount of experience. Similarly, low-level characters killing high-level
monsters get only a small amount of experience, as well. This is done so that a
level 5 character running around with three level 20 characters isn't getting
ridiculous amounts of experience for the higher level monsters which only his
level 20 party members can destroy.
When partied, the player who delivers the final blow to a monster receives an
experience bonus of 10%.
Finally, party members share experience only when they are in the same named
area, defined as the "level" on the Automap.
Experience Loss in Nightmare and Hell Difficulty Starting in
Nightmare, you will lose experience with each death. You will not, however, ever
lose a level. The experience loss (5% in Nightmare and 10% in Hell) is applied
to the experience difference from the current level to the next level. So, if
you achieved level X at experience 1,000,000 and you would achieve level X+1 at
experience 2,000,000, then the penalty is 5% or 10% of (2,000,000-1,000,00),
that is, 5% or 10% of 1,000,000.
Do you get experience from monsters that have been raised by other
Monsters? No. You only get experience from a monster the first time.
Do Hirelings or Minions take any extra experience? No. You don't
get any less experience for using Hirelings. You gain experience from using
Hirelings, in that points from their kills are added to your experience totals.
Hirelings also level up when you do, at no cost to you in points.
Monster Experience in Multiplayer Games Experience (earned for
killing) and HP of monsters will change with the number of players in the game.
So when people join a game, the Monsters become harder, and when people leave
the game, they become easier. For the ultimate challenge solo against monsters
on Hell Difficulty in an 8 player game. In multiplayer, when a Monster is
created, it checks to see how many players are in the game. The Monster's Hit
Points are multiplied the number of players in the game: (Life = Hit Points *
Number of Players in the Game). The Monster's Base Experience will be determined
by the following formula:
Experience = X + (n-1)*((2/3)X)
X = base experience n = # of players in the game
This will determine the base experience of a Monster.
